The whole world knows Bengaluru as the capital of Information Technology (IT) and an exciting startup hub. Besides that, it became the most liveable city in India in March 2021. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) gave Bengaluru an impressive 66.1 score out of 100 after publishing its comprehensive report in March 2021. 

Bengaluru defeated some large cities (with a population of more than 1 million) like Ahmedabad, Chennai, Greater Mumbai, Indore, Pune, Surat, and Vadodara to claim the number one spot. 

How Bengaluru reached the top in the Ease of Living Index 2020

  • Bengaluru is number one in Citizen Perception (78) amongst all the large Indian cities. Hence, residents are immensely pleased with the world-class services offered by the State Government of Karnataka.  Every citizen gets access to drinking water, electricity, and public transport. The quality of life along with safety and security offered in a cosmopolitan city like Bengaluru is the best
  • The employment prospects are high in Bengaluru as it scored a humongous 78.82 in Economic Ability. The land of IT and ITeS companies contributes immensely to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the nation. More jobs are being created for talented people due to friendly foreign investment incentives offered for big Multinational Companies (MNCs)In comparison, Bengaluru’s competitors, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai scored below 30 out of 100 in Economic Ability. This is a strong example of Bengaluru’s high economic growth and lucrative opportunities. 
  • The Covid-19 pandemic also enhanced Bengaluru’s fighting spirit and resilience. People openly accepted the Work from Home (WFH) option. This led to a cleaner environment as there was not much garbage and traffic on the roads due to lockdown measures. 
  • Cycle to Work became a new option as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike established dedicated Cycle-only tracks across the city. Hence, cyclists are able to reach their offices faster.
  • Several water bodies have been revived under the Hasiru Bengaluru programme of the BBMP. Up to 25 lakes have been cleaned, desilted, fenced, and bunds have been strengthened. Each lake has a diversion canal now to prevent the flow of sewage.
  • Government services are also available for the public round-the-clock with the presence of the Centre for e-governance portal. Bengaluru has a state-of-the-art Covid-19 War Room helping in contact tracing and sharing authentic information.
  • Patients are also getting quality healthcare in 151 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) and 34 referral hospitals located in Bengaluru. Hence, people get affordable treatment for all kinds of diseases and disorders.

Bengaluru has unquestionably become a role-model for other cities to follow suit. Further, it has progressed with greater pace under the Smart Cities Mission. Importantly, citizens actively participate and assist the government with their useful suggestions for implementing different schemes. 

Therefore, Bengaluru is no doubt the wonderful paradise where people love to buy their dream home and settle down for a happy and peaceful life.
